A few classes ago someone mentioned the idea of having "Discussion Days," where we put topics into an "Ask It Basket," pull out an idea and talk about it. The topics could range from someone having problems with friends to something more broad like the upcoming presidential campaign to a controversial topic such as capital punishment.
First, answer me this: Would you be interested in discussion? (Mind you, we would have to be respectful, understanding and supportive of others' opinions. You may not agree with his or her stance, but there will be no disrespect.)
Second, riddle me this: What kinds of topics would you like to discuss?

A discussion box sounds amazing, whatever we end up discussing. Sadly, I think the ability to talk about a topic with any intelligence is lost on about half this class. Actually...that would make for some very interesting talks! Idea seconded!
And ideas? Socialized health care, gay rights, and religon.
The "ask it basket" sounds like a lovely idea! I think some people don't know who to talk to about their problems but if it was just a discussion time they would have the chance to ask any questions they had on their mind. I don't really have any topics I can think of right now to talk aout but I like the idea of it.
I personally like the idea of an "ask it basket". It would be a change in pase with what we have been doing in class. And i think it would be lots of fun disscussing ideas about different topics. It would get our class thinking allot more and would actually benefit us having discussions.
i also think that the topics could be a variety of anything.
It's a fantastic idea although I don't think our class would be able to handle in because no one gets along. And honestly not all people in our class like each other oh so much. I also don't think we'd accomplish too much in all honestly. I can't really think of many topics to discuss at the moment but I do love the idea.
I believe it would be great to have a class discussion as long as it doesn't turn into a class debate. I think if you have the class discussion it will help prevent the underwhispers of when you are trying to teach us. also it might get a certain few people more involved in to the class instead of forinstance falling asleep in the back of the class plus it gets our brains more open to a topic that we don't normally think about on a daily baisis
Some topics that would conjur a good arguement would be the normal the death penality...

Ehm discussion days? Sounds pretty good... Very nice... Then we could discuss how the bees are feeling.. when we will die because of global warming.. and what we have to do today to save the world of tomorrow. Not bad. Lets do it.
ask it basket! enough said i could not be more excited. It is so interesting to hear your peers opinions and ocassionally get advise from them.
fun topics could be abortion, the war, assissted suicide, health care and presidential canidates.
ask it basket would be cool. i just dont know if our class could handle it. i mean im sure everyone has there ideas on everything but some people are very one minded and probably will fight to get everyone to listen to there opinion and possibly get mad if they dont agree. so i think we might be able to do it just we would have to be careful on what we talk about. but i guess try it if it doesnt work we just won tdo it again...

I think it would be interesting what all the peolpe think about all the subjects above (war, healthcare, of course dying bees!!!!)
I often think I know what someones oppinion to these themes is but when there is a discussion it turns out i was wrong - so I would like a discussion round
No, I would not be interested in discussion it would be a waste of time. I don't want to hear about other peoples problems and they dont want to hear about mine. Keep your problems to yourself, drama sucks.
I think this idea sucks. Most topics are too broad for any of us to care, and any the more personal toics would hit too close to home and people wouldn't want to expose themselves in a classroom of 20 other teenagers. Whos bright idea was this?
i hink tht a disscussion day would be swell! it would be nice to be able to have everyone put in what they think about a topic, i think that the topics could be anything from things that are going on in our school to things that are happening on a national scale, but you know that you are going to get a lot of random topics thrown into that box lol!!!

I would be interested in discussion but I don't have any ideas on what to discuss. I think a class discussion is a good idea.
The topic I would want to discuss is where do babys come from! Cause my mom and dad never did tell me!! Kidding Ms Geist! I wouldn't want a discuss day!
I think a discussion box would be lame since not evryone cares about the same things and it would especially suck if we had to be respectful to others feelings so to whoever suggested this i say try somethin else cause none else cares even if they say they do
I wouldnt life to have a discussion box because in all honesty i dont really care about anyone elses problems they can go have their problems somewhere else and don't try and ruin my good day by telling me them. As far as talking about topics i wouldnt talk about topics because it was stated that you have to be respectful and i am a very opinionated individual.
It sounds like a good idea but in the end a discussion becomes an argument and in arguments I use logic to prove other people wrong and many people would then be "hurt" because I slayed their idea with my logic.
I think that the ask it basket will prevewnt our class from talking so much. we will all be able to talk and have a discussion about our issues that we want ot talk about. I ccannot think of anythign that we would talk about right now but i think that this is a good idea anf that people wil finally have the opportunity to say what thy feel.
i probably wouldn't want to be in a discussion, maybe some i know but other then that i am not good in discussions. some topics i would want to disuss would probably be about what is happening in iraq, what the military is doing, why the president is being a beep. another discussion would be about maybe random things that i know
I can see there being a lot of fighting with a discussion box. Not Yelling but debating there are a lot of opinionated people in my class, it would be interesting. I don't know of any topics to think about sorry.
A discussion box would be cool, but only if we all had the chance to speak our opinions and everything. In this class it seems like only certain people just talk talk talk all the time and act like their opinion is the only important and right one around. So i dont know if it would work. But it would be interesting to try it. I think we all should just randomly throw topics into the box and pick them out, and the topics could be about anything. I could see people in our class arguing about stuff though, because thats just how our whole class is, we argue, but it could lead into something fun I guess, it could be interesting.
im not a fan of discussions myself ill listen but probably wont argue it. so either way i dont care what happens.
i like the "ask it basket" idea but i sorry to say but i don't many people would actually participate if we actually did. It would be the same people while the others sleep through the class.
Well some people who dont participate in class would join in where they wouldn't in class, but eya for the most part it would be the same ppl dominating the convo

I don't think our class would be able to take the questions seriously. I think that another class would benefit more from the "ask it basket" than ours. The idea is good but for it to work, the students need to be respectful and serious. Some topics for discussion could be related to politics, the environment or even pop culture stuff.
i think it would be fun if the things that we talked about where fun but then again if the topic is boring it may be boring. i think it depends on the topic if its a good idea or not.

That would be awesome but maybe politics and religon are a bad idea since every one i know has diffrent takes on them and are stubborn like bulls.
Talking about problems with friends, maybe things that have hurt you, if people are willing to share of course. maybe video games, Maybe life on other planets would be fun! lol.
i think we should have this ask i basket cause in normal class we usually get off topic and discuss stuff but then the teacher says we have to get back on topic so we should have 1 of those days.. i have no idea what exactly we should talk bout but we should try it out
I would deff. be intrested in class discussions! I think it would be really fun and intresting. (Not really sure if our class would be do great though.) We should be the ones to put ideas in the basket and talk about things that are going on with us. I love the idea!

hmmm well i think we should have all girls in one class and the guys in the other one. because i think the girls want to do it but the guys dont. but i do think its a great idea. because i like discussing my opinion as everyone knows.
I ussually dont particapate much so I guess I'll do what ever it is that the class chooses.
