"Graduation Garb" --By Bandits.on.the.Power.Play

Just recently a group of Native American students went to the board in order to get approval to wear a stolle and an eagle feather that signifies their culture, much like what NHS wears to signify their belonging to the group.

Would you be offended if this were approved? Should everyone wear the same gown? Does it matter? Shouldn't we support diversity? Discuss.

It wouldnt offend me at all, if you want to represent your culture and show that your proud of it thats cool, since graduation is all about being proud of who you are and your accomplishments, so your culture and the person that you are should represent that. So, i think that would be awesome for the board the approve. It doesnt offend me at all =)

i wouldnt be offended with it. i want to wear a stolle. even if i said i wanted everyone to wear the same gown(which i dont want, im just saying) it wouldnt make a difference. you still have the top ten people, the validictorian n all the other scholars that wear special attire to show there achievement. wearing a stolle would show what us native americans have accomplished. and according to pervious records the drop out rate for native americans is mad high. so for me graduating is more a big deal and wearing a stolle will show what i achieved not just for me but for my nation as well.

its fine if they want to wear that.
but i think if they get to do that we should get to do what we want.
for example i dont think i should have to wear dress clothes because you cant see them anyway.
if they get what they want i should get what i want too.

Obviously this would not offend me. I think that since this school has a very high precentage of Native American students that attend a small symbol on a stolle should not offend anyone. We are just showing that we are proud to be our heritage and we know who we are. If you think about it this is a small favor we are asking, compared to colleges who go as far as wearing the entire outfit. Theres nothing wrong with the whole outfit but this situation could be a whole lot worse.

Well I wouldn't be offended by the eagle feather stolle because I am one of those who will be wearing it. I don't really understand why the board needed to approve of it first though. I feel that anyone should be able to express and celebrate their culture or whatever as long as it respectful and not too conspicuous.

i myself was part of the group that went to the board to get the stolles so i obviously would not care and i think you should be proud of who you are.

What's wrong with that? Our school is 30% Native Americans and we're right on the edge of the reservation...oh yes, we're certainly living the Andrew Jackson dream. As long as they don't put any tight leads on the rest of us, let the native kids do what they want. You only graduate once.

i dont understand why it would be a problem.
its just like wearing jewlery with a coss on it - and you dont need a approval for that!?

I think it is good that they get to wear them because it is showing the pride in their culture. if you really want to do it then you should. To Levitas Navarius please don't wear the kilt that would be just really weird..... If you do you have issues
