"What's Praying?" By: Hellblazer

Why is Religion such a touchy subject in public schools? Is it really a big deal if you're praying or worshipping in a school? Let's hear some feedback, people!

I think there's a large contrast between something you do in school and something you're forced or even asked to do. Who does it hurt if you say a prayer in school? But if the teacher is going to suggest it, then we have a problem.

Actually, I think the same thing goes for standing to the say the pledge to the flag. It's a very personal issue.

Religion and school, its just another reason to discriminate. i believe its not allowed in school because it might raise violance, and being allowed to pray would "hurt" the non religious's feelings. oh boo woo. -.- people now adays are to sensitive. What do you think this country was based on? Religois people of all sorts of religion wanting to see their own veiws. I'm not saying not being religious or not is bad but if we just can't tolerate anothers veiw then what kind of country is this?

hellblazer? you bring up the topic of religion and your post name is hellblazer? thats weird. religion is a touchy subject in public schools because its almost the same as talking about someones race which is hurtful. i think if someone wants to pray, they should be able to. theres nothing wrong with that.

My name is Hellblazer for a reason. Google it or better yet, go to wikipedia and you'll see why.

Religion is a very touchy subject because politicians today "preach" the difference between church and state. Thats stupid. The state was founded through the Church!...Like many have said, Religious people should be allowed to perform any activity in school that they would also do out of school. If the state forces them to go to school, then they should be able to practice religion while there.

Religion is a touchy subject because the views are so different. But I'm wondering if there's any rule against praying in school since I've never heard of one, so if you feel like praying or worshipping go right ahead it's when the school says you can't they are doing something wrong.

Oh yea dusky twilight isn't it hypocritical to say "and being allowed to pray would "hurt" the non relgious's feelings. oh boo woo." then comeback later in your post and say that "but if we just can't tolerate anothers view then what kinds of country is this?"

There are a lot of different religions and most people don't want to hear the preaching of others.

im not a religious person i never went to church and i carry my own personal morals so i never saw a problem with people carrying out there religious beliefs in school. if someone else wants to pray or whatever during school hours i wouldn't be offended no matter what religion they are if any. i think that it should be a personal option if you want to do that or not, as long as they don't go around trying to preach their beliefs onto others i don't see a problem. but i think that it is a PROBLEM when you have certain people blurting out religious and ethnic slurs all the time. i'm glad that we don't have a muslim or middle eastern student in our school because i couldn't imagine the crap they would go through everyday from these guys who think their so tough and are all pro MILITARY ABUSE. i think that its really ignorant for these peple to say all these things not for a reason but just for the sake to be saying something negative

so people don't argue with each other like brawls in school. if somebody wants to pray or worship in school let them it's their religion it should't matter to anybody else.

I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to pray in school as long as there not being forced too. Its a personal decisions so why should you be stopped from doing something you beleive in. Different strokes for different folks.

i think because public school is so diverse they dont want to focus on one religion, which makes complete sense to me. people get easily offended about religion so if they were forced to do something they didnt believe in they'd be upset

I think people should be able to express their religion in there own way. Just as long as it's doing no harm to anyone or putting anyone else's religion down like my religion is better than religion type thing.

although are you sure the school is an appropriate place to express your religion?

i'm not to big in the whole religon in school but i think the reaon we really aren't allowed to is because of how many diffferent religons there are. could you imagin the whole school flipping out about others choice in worshiping their god or god's? there would be crusaids in th hall way!!! i think if you really want to pray in school do it quietly and if it really mean that much to you get a study hall that you can go have some time alone or talk to the principle to make something happen for yourself. and if that isn't good enough try a religouse school. you'll have all the time in the world to pray

As a spirtualist I say that praying is something that each person does on their own and at thier own lesiure. Now if you want to go back to the old times when after the pledge someone always say's the "Our father" then that is forcing religion down your throut. But that is the freedom of my religion. I can see all views and not judge.

Every person has their own religion. For instance I am a Catholic. However, I don't go to church or say prayers. If someone brought in a bible to read in school then more power to them. He or she has the right to read and say prayers but, the issue is everyone has a different religion and beliefs. That can cause an uproar. I don't really care what a person's beliefs and prayers and stuff are but, don't force me to read it. I know in eighth grade, our spanish teacher made us watch a religious movie before our Christmas break. He even would take away books that he thought were the "devil." I remember that being a major issue and that is when a religion conflicts and why it is prohibited to practice religion in public school settings.
