"If they give you lined paper, write the other way." Juan Ramon Jimenez

Aside from (maybe) wasting paper, what the heck does this quote mean? How do you think it applies to your life? (Does it apply to your life?)

Hello... I belive this 'quote' basicly stats that there are many diffrent ways to write about things other than pen and paper. People now-a-days Text on cell phones, E-mail on the internet, and use the phone to communicate. Many diffrent ways to communicate are being created as we day after day. Things are evolving as time goes by and research has taking a great leap foward.

Maybe I am wrong...Comment back if you truly think so.

I like this quote, to me, i read "Break Rules" but what i dont like is how simple it is, i break rules yes...but only if i think they should be broken, or if there is a greater achievment to break that rule, illegal or legal, dont mistaken those two as good and bad, there is a diffrence maybe not in your morals, but in mine...but, if you dont believe in a rule, then break it, change it, dispose of it then make a new one, rules are made to be broken, just to be made again, rules change with time,

I think it means...and im not saying im smart...and im not saying that i know how to read. :D but i think it means that when you go through life, dont be guided the way that everyone wants to be guided. Like..you write on the paper and you always write left to right...and in life, you can be directed in one way your entire life. Choose your own path and dont let it be decided by others.....crack kills.

Sanitarium's got it, i agree totally, he/she whatever said it perfectly, dont let anyone direct you, if you want to totally 360 everything, then feel free to do so, just beware of consequences, with all great actions or any, there are consequences...

Well first and foremost im leaving a comment because Geist was crying that no one was doing this one so here i am. I kind of regret saying i would comment about this quote because i have no clue what it means. Is the man who said it telling me to write backwards, like right to left? Or is it saying that instead of writing on the lines write across the lines? I have no idea how this quote is suppose to apply to my life. Maybe its saying do what i want to do. Instead of sticking to the lines that im told to obey and write neatly along, ill turn my paper to write across the lines. It may turn out a little bit sloppier then intended, like my writing taking a dip downward then back up on track but its the way i chose to write. I dont know about this quote though. Kind of confusing.

Hey there anonymous. I have a question for you. If you decide that you want to totally 360 everything, wont you be back to where you were? you wouldnt really be changing anything. I dont know though. its just my outlook on that.

I think I know who 'Anonymous' is as well.....

See, you think a 360 would return you to the same spot..but you are wrong. In a parallel universe far along the stars and crazy 180's and 900's there is a 360....the 360 chills. It has an online connection, can have 4 players at once...and is the creator is Halo...Everyone..bow down to the xbox360 as it has changed lifes...and made people fat...and lazy....360 KICKS @$$$$$$$

If you were giving lined paper, write the other way...hmmm i take that quote as being different..somepeople said breaking rules, yeah it could mean to break rules, but i dont really think if you write the wrong way on paper, it means your breaking the rules...if you were to write the other way o lined paper your being different from everyoe else whos writing the right way.

Umm...sorry for my math error.... 180 or whatever....but if you change one rule, your still gunna get another, just diffrent precautions, so in reality, arn't you right back where you started?

Sanitarium said...

Life always bring you back to where you started.....thats why life sucks...you never get anywhere...

yeah i guess you would be back to where you started. kind of weird how that happens.

Wow. AWESOME commenting.

I have a question for you folks: most of you mention "breaking the rules" or not adhering to rules that you find are not fair or paving your own path. For every rule, law or moral, there have to be 100 people that do not agree with it. Given what was written here, and given these 100 people do not like the rule, they would not have to follow it. Wouldn't that create mass hysteria?

i think that it means you write anyway that you want and not get yelled at.

I believe that the quote means to follow your own path. You don't always have to follow the status quo; forge your own direction instead of being dictated by someone or something.

I think that this quote indefinitely means to go against society because society is almost always never right... It bascially tells you to break the rules, go against the flow, follow your heart... you know, that kind of thing... Everything keeps going so fast that nobody is thinking before they do something... Nobody thinks of the consequences first... Nobody really takes the time to figure out how it might affect the world and in what way.
