NO MORE BOOKS---FOREVER!

Catchy title, huh?

Now that I have your attention, let me start by asking you what kind of relationship you have with reading material. (I will qualify "reading material" as anything that you read: magazines, newspapers, comics, novels, cereal boxes--anything in print.) Do you have a love/hate relationship? Do you have a weekend fling? Do tell.

What if I told you that all -I repeat ALL- written word was now illegal. (Please control your initial ecstatic excitement.) In place of all written word is a descriptive picture. To read is to be punished. To be caught in possession of reading material is to be punished. To be caught with a sideways glance at reading material is to be punished. (Are you getting a visual?)

Think about it. How would you feel? What would an ordinary day be like?

I've had an intimate relationship with reading since I was just past the age of being considered a baby--at age 9, I read my first Stephen King. If books were ever banned from the world like they are in Farenheit 451, the only thing keeping me from trying to end my own life would be the fight to bring them back.

An ordinary day would probably be boring. I read all the time. I mostly read magazines because their not so time consuming and fashion interests me. I get a subscription of Teen Vogue magazine every month. It keeps me updated on fashion and new perfumes and new things from around the world. If this was banned or any other type of magazine, no one would know the latest trends or what new movies are out or even music. If any reading materials were banned, then who knows what else could be as well.

No writing? No words? No reading? That would be pretty weird. It would be like going maybe three thousand years back in time. So would we be supposed to walk around only dressed in bear skin, and look like cavemen as well? Not a bad idea, but I do not think it would work for a longer period of time. And I think there would be a lot of people that would not like it. I wouldn't mind though. Then we probably wouldn't damage the environment as much as we do today either(!). But It would have a big affect on the general life of an average person in the modern world.

I LOVE to read.
Any chance i get i will read.I even read over posters at doctors offices or anyhting with written material on it. I would be heart broken if i couldn't read anymore. If i was punished for everytime i read,i would be punished a lifetime.

Dude I would be on the top of the most wanted list. I read every day and you know what I have to agree with Casey I would try to bring them back (not about the ending my own life, I don't like books that much!) I read novels internet blogs whatever is relivent to me. Hate the newspaper! Needs to be burned! Reporters suck huge donkey slong.

Im not really that much of a reading type of girl. Occasionally I will read a good novel if it sounds good to me and is something that interests me. I will also read if I am stressed out and just want some alone time. If all the novels and print were gone, it would be kind of boring and you couldn't really get away and have alone time. You wouldn't really even know what was going on in the world or any event cause you wouldn't be able to read the newspaper.

it would be scarry because then everybody would depend on technology - i mean of course we already depend on it but without reading we couldn't comunicate with eachother over long distances without phone so the the people controlling the phonecomanys would have all the power!

casey,
i completley agrre with your final statement. I would die without books!
If books were banned i would fight my entire life to bring them back.

I am not going to lie I don't enjoy reading. At least not long books. But, if i wasn't aloud to read anything i would probably be bored with life. I do read somewhat, magazines and stuff like that and i guess texts could be considered reading. I guess the world would be a lot different without reading. We would probably need a computer that tells us what to do.

No reading would be very weird since we read ALL the time. Even if it's not books everyone reads! There would be no cell phones(texting), I pods, computers, driving would be chaotic. There would be not street signs or no directions. Everything would have to be images which would be very weird.

Levitas Navarius said...

Cindy Love WTF? there's someone who isn't in on what is going on. just kidding wait no I'm not. lol. If it were like cavemaning it I would love it cuz then I could show off yeah right im kidding.

Without reading we wouldn't really be able to do much, huh? I read some books. But mostly magazines they have more interesting topics about what's going on today. It'd be so weird without no reading at all. People wouldn't have much of an imagination. Reading makes your imagination bigger and makes you think more.

I'm not a big reader but I do enjoy it once in awhile. If there was nothing to read it would be really wierd and very boring. I guess I agree with the rest of you, it would be like caveman times.

If all reading was suddenly banned the world seriously could not go on. In order to make and sell productsyou need to be able to read formulas and procedures. I love to text and we wouldnt be able to call each other, email, or text anybody you know. There'd be no school work(i would say who cares but someones got to make stuff work) and everything would just turn back into cave man days. We prob. wouldnt be able to adjust and all die off :(.

elven pirate,
your statements are entirely true.
The newspapper should be burned!!!
It spreads propoganda.
The reporter part is pretty graphic.
however, it is also comletley true. Reporter suck donkey shlongs, big time!

Reading is just a way that the gov't is trying to brain wash us. Every day you never know what crappy brainwashing piece of @#@# book they are going to pull out next. Maybe a 500 page dictionary, maybe a book about two guys on a farm, or maybe another one about people digging holes. Please, just burn all the books and learn to enjoy good old fashioned tv...or go outside..and put the book down...

I been reading for a good part of my life.We use it everyday.Without written work their is no way that we would learn anything.Without things written down their would be nothing from the past, future, and now.we would be in a worls of nothing.it would make evreyday boring and we would probaly all be stupid. So without books we are nothing.

okaykaykay said...

Hmmm...No reading? No nothing? yea right! there would be no speed limits and no road signs because no one would know how to read them, no writing on shirts, no nothing! i admit i am not a big fan of reading but will if i have the time or if the book looks interesting. there would be no more technology no more anything i really wouldnt like it at all. well accept for maybe the speed limit thing seeing as i did get a ticket already

I love to read, it passes the hours and brings adventure. If I could not read it would be like liveing in hell. Were ever you look you will find written words. You read everyday, you might not relive it but whenever you look at a poster you read the words that are on it.

my relationship for reading material is not that good just because i don't read that well it makes me mad and usually the books are to long. that was my hate relationship with reading materials. if there was no words in this world it would really suck because if there was no words the world would be different because people might not be able to get educated. just like if there was no i-pods,cell phones, cars, street signs it would be wierd. cause like i said some people might not get educated like how to read, wouldn't know were to go on the road(wouldn't be able to read road signs). i do not like to read a lot but i would hate it if there was no words or anything being published.

Kull said...

Hey Bama, its kind of obvious that you are from alabama :). Any way I love to read to especially when I'm bored I like to find a good book. Well I'll see you in gym. Read on.

BeeSlayer5000 said...

Well first of all I would still read since if written word was illegal then all the laws would not be written and if they werent written there would be no laws. So total anarchy would spread across the land and so would complete chaos.

alyssa*ashley said...

if reading were illegal that would mean soo much more than no books..it would also mean no music because there would be no lyrics. it would mean no newspapers no magazines. but mostly there would be no documentation of anything, which means future generations won't know our history, we won't know anybody's medical reports and no records for prisoners or sex offenders. this would either push us back into ancient times, or thrust us into a more technologically advanced future, relying on machines to keep everything in check for us because we can't write anything down or read anything. just wondering what would be the punishment for reading??

Double T said...

No reading or writing would be weird. I wouldn;t like it because i read and write all the time. It would also become very confusing trying to figure out what all the pictures mean.

SWEET JESUS this sounds awesome lets do it i mean who needs books. They are silly and useless. I hate them reading is boring technology rocks my socks i dont need paper when i can just use some beastly electronic stuff. No more books forever?..very catchy title!...that would be an insane world!...no books, magazines, street signs bilboards..how would we learn in school?..but we wouldnt have to learn about reading so there wouldnt be any point to english class...we'd have many more speech and drawing classes...it would be symbols and images every where...no books or words would lead to people speaking in pictures or with their hands...

I ain't a big reader, but I guess books are alright. I mean I don't go out of my way to read a freakin' story, but some reading can be semi- interesting.

chadjohnson said...

i would have to say i could care less bout books bein banned since theyre crap anyways. If you read in your spare time i think you should consider getting a life or maybe finding a hobbie worth while.

bandits.on.a.power-play said...

it is a VERY catchy title. you could not even call my relationship with "reading material" a relationship, it is more of an acquaintence. lol. i am rarely seen reading a book, magazine, or anything. i only pick up the news paper to get to the games, and sudoku. that's about it. lol. Im not gonna lie, i't ould get boring if it became illegal to read anything! It would be cool at first, but then after a while i think that i would want to read at least something. but that is just what i think... ~oneh

I like to read kind of, but usually I forget about the book and never finish it, because it takes a really good book to interest me. Mostly i enjoy my magazines because there are pictures...haha jk...but magazines are cool. I'm told I should read more but I never really find the time to do so, or I get bored. But I cant imagine a world without books or written material...we got to do something in english class...

Alfalfa said...

Well I DO read cereal boxes and it gets really boring when cereal companies dont change their box for a while and I'm stuck doing the same puzzles over and over! I will read some books here and there but on a whole I do not read much anymore. I used to alot when I was a kid to help me fall asleep at night, but I havent had that problem the last few years. However, I do read sports magazines, so i suppose that counts for something. If life did not have reading, I suppose it wouldn't have to much effect on me.

Alax said...

well i disagree with casey i mean books are iight but everyone cou;d live without them...

P.S. Life's a garden dig it...

ugh i love to read. its totally amazing. books are better than tv and movies because you can vizualize anything you want, there are no limits. if there were no book, it would suck. if my life was in danger i woudlnt read, but id be unhappy about it.

I read everyday, whether it is the directv guide on my tv or on a starbucks cup. If words and stuff were banned we would all be super confused and wouldn't know what's on tv or where our drinks are from. But for real, I read magazines all the time and that would suck if I couldn't read them anymore.

A world with out books.... it is a world i cant even imagin... its a horrible horrible place so dark... So scary O.o

Ever since I was little I was into reading. My mother would read me books before I went to bed. In school I would read in the corner. heck I write my own stories now, if reading was talent away I’d do something Like start up a rebel army and take down the stupid dictator that took away books!

McFeely said...

Reading magazines, the paper(sometimes), and reading the back of cereal boxes and playing the games are pretty much amazing. Novels I don't mind too much I tend to fall asleep though. I would hate to be punished for reading! That's just dumb to even say that it would be illegal to read.

Alisha Bowers said...

I dont love to read, but i dont hate it. i read to my baby every night. i think that the world would be a hard place to learn if there was only descriptive pictures and no reading. the day would get hard because you would have nothind to really tell you what to do.
