What novels are appropriate to teach in 9th grade?

I am always looking for new novels to teach to both my Regents classes and my Honors class. Any suggestions?

good day,
I absolutely must recommend "Heart of Fire" by Beth Geyer(Sam's mom). Probably the best book I've ever read!! It is about religious persecution in 16th century France. Great topic and fairly easy to read, as it is not written in crazy dialects or accents.
peace!

I thought about what books would be good for your honors class(not like I am familiar with many novels or even good ones at that) however I really liked the book To Kill a mockingbird. Then I realized you already had them read that! But it is a great book. I'm reading Memoirs of a Geisha right now and I am almost done with it. I have to say I did not think I would like it at first, however it has definetly proven to be and excellent book. I have no other suggestions right now, besides, Othello is great!!! You did not hurt us at all by having Honors read it. Well now i have left a comment for you on your blog!! Yay! I officially do love you!

Umm you should make them read a book that is long and boring like you did to us in 9th grade. But your still the best!!

I don't really know because i don't really want to think right now. but i guess i will give you a couple of suggestions how about the books listed below: Macbeth, romeo and juliet, of mice and men. and that my friend is all of i can think of, get those annoying little 9th graders ready for the big years of high school.

the Giver, or perhaps a fantasy adventure.(Wait i don't like freshmen) give em seedfolks! That way they can turn out like us! Or you could give them a bunch of poetry and start talking in the old tounge. "For mine eyes ought never seen a fairer beauty then thee, with heart song telling a long windded tale of which mine ears rejoice to hear. But what shall mine price be for beholding such rare a beauty? No the God's could not even tax for they have lost one of their own. O what spelnder! What joy that mine own being rejoices apon seeing Ms Geist. lol
