Governor Patterson's Proposals

I know all of you have heard about Gov. Patterson's proposed tax increases/budget cuts. Here is a summary of what he is proposing. And yes, it does affect you!

1. Tax clothes and shoes under $110
2. Tax anything downloaded from the internet (music, movies)
3. Tax sporting events (Bandits, Bills, Sabres)
4. Increase fees for licenses, license plates and registration
5. Tax non-diet drinks
6. Tax haircuts and massages
7. Tax the price for a movie admission
8. Get rid of the current gas tax cap
9. Increase college tuition

10. Tax your life

Okay, number 10 is fake, but what do you think? Do you think this will help NY get out of this downtrodden slump? Do you think this is just going to make people want to move?

Talk about it here, people!

I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I am in Governor Patterson's choices. When he first came into office, I thought, "This guy looks real reliable! I trust him." However, sometimes first impressions can be changed.

I don't believe this will help the slump New Yorkers are already in. Why cut budgets if you increase taxes? That just makes everything worse. (By the way, they might as well tax your life, he's already putting taxes on everything else).

I'm more upset about the taxes he's put on the Seneca Nation, taxing the cigarettes sold on Indian land. He broke one of the most important treaties to us, and just because we call them treaties doesn't mean they are any less of a law such as "You may not smoke within 100 feet of the entrance to a public building." (From a website that contains dumb laws in New York).

Right now, I am just trying to be the naive, ignorant, and optimistical teenager who believes everything will end soon. Even if it's in a year or two. At least things will get better. (=

Honestly, I don't buy anything so this doesn't affect me too much. Also I plan to leave New York as soon as possible.

I really think that in the current state of the economy he sould be cutting spending not raising taxes.

when i first heard about this, it was quite disappointing. i actually heard this in Economics and i was shocked.

i don't understand how taxing is helping the people of New York. What we need the most right now is more money in our pockets, not spending more money.

I am VERY ticked off at you, Governor Paterson. Have you seen the state of our economy? We are in a recession and all you can think about is raising taxes? You should be putting your efforts towards getting the citizens of New York what THEY want.

once again taxes for rediculus reasons. however in the long run it might help a little bit but right now in the state the economy is in now, what we need is tax breaks to allow people to have more money in there pocket which then they will spend on goods.
as for the taxing non diet drinks that is just stupid. does he know that diet is just as bad for you as regular pop, if not worse?
taxing the seneca nation is just stupid. you cannot throw treaties like that out the window. he just needs to leave them alone. and as only 1/4 native american. and the rest white. i am in full support of the seneca nation

ok, so taxing people will not help the people, i have also heard that this is a temporary tax from some where. There is no such thing as a temporary tax.

If the defict is so big, why can't we just get rid of those jobs in the goverment that are useless and have no place now. I mean we're cutting the middle class' jobs now, so why can't we cut the jobs of the rich?

I don't plan on living in new york after high school. So Gov. Pat can play his little games with the taxes cause I am not going to put up with it.

i say if there's a slump, cut spending.
like maybe cut back on the truck-load of money spent on an inauguration?

or maybe Patterson can give up some of his money.
taxes haven't solved anything in the past.

I feel that all the taxes he doing is going to force families out of NY state.
